How To Repurpose Interviews For Maximum Impact

April 27, 20254 min read

The Financially Free Author Show Notes: Season 2, Episode 3. Guest Lyndsay Phillips.

If you're guesting on podcasts and only sharing a single Instagram post afterward, you're leaving a lot of impact (and leads!) on the table.

Here’s what Lyndsay Phillips of Smooth Business Podcasting had to say about getting real ROI from your podcast guest spots...

Podcast Guesting Isn’t Just Exposure, It’s Leverage

Lyndsay began by sharing that many guests rely entirely on the podcast host to do the marketing heavy lifting—sharing the episode, emailing their list, and posting on social. But if you're only banking on that, you're missing out. Especially because many podcast hosts are not marketers themselves and may not make the most strategic choices when they are promoting you.

It feels out of your control as they can make whatever image they want, whatever title they want, and they may or may not promote as much as you would like. Lyndsay realized there was no reason not to create her own promotional assets for her guestspots.

“I started creating my own branded images, my own show notes, and my own blog posts. That way, when I'm promoting, I’m also pushing traffic to my site—and I’m positioning myself how I want to be positioned.”

That’s a powerful shift: reclaiming control of how your expertise is shared and framed. She always links back to the podcast, of course, so it is benefitting the host as well as giving them exposure but it also allows her to position the interview in her own way.

Why the Right Title (and Page) Matters

Sometimes a podcast host will try to create a catchy title but it doesn't tell the listeners what the episode is actually about. (I, for one, never listen to podcast episodes that are titled "interview with such and such guest" unless I know who that guest is...which is rare). Are you simply stuck if your podcast host doesn't know enough about stopping the scroll or leading with a hook? Not at all. You can't control much about what goes out on their channels but you can control your own.

Lyndsay recommends creating your own blog post with:

  • A new, optimized title

  • Key bullet points or takeaways

  • Embedded video/audio

  • A strong visual with your branding own branding (but still having the podcast logo/art on it)

This ensures visitors (and potential leads) instantly see the authority and value you want them to. Embedding the episode means that you are still supporting and promoting the host at the same time.

The Power of Repurposing Podcast Guest Spots: Lyndsay’s 4-Step System

If there is one thing I love, it's a system...especially if it has numbered steps.

Lyndsay shared her Podcast Leverage System, which includes:

  1. Publishing – Add the episode to your site with your positioning and branding.

  2. Distributing – Share everywhere: email, social media, LinkedIn articles, even reels.

  3. Repurposing – Pull out quotes, stats, and tips to create snackable content.

  4. Multiplying – Turn one interview into carousels, quote graphics, shorts, reels, and more.

“Carousels are super hot. They're like little mini-books. Four steps. Three reasons. Quick value bites.”

And you know what that all sounds like? Traffic! This way you don't even have to have your own podcast to create a ton of strategic content from one.

Think Beyond Your Audience

“When you share reels and shorts, especially those under 15 or 30 seconds, Instagram and YouTube push it out to more people. That’s how you get in front of new audiences.”

And it builds authority fast. If you’re showing up across multiple platforms and podcast appearances, your credibility skyrockets.

Short form video functions as a top of funnel piece of content. It goes out to a wider variety of people, many of them new-to-you. If they are interested in the snippet they heard, they come back to be nurtured by the long-form version of the interview and hopefully from there they click on the link in the shownotes and become a lead.

Make It Easy for Hosts (and Yourself)

Lyndsay suggests:

  • Have strong “talk titles” and topics on your one-sheet

  • Suggest interview questions that position your expertise

  • Always ask for the video to promote it your way

“The more you promote, the more hosts want you on their show—and they’re more likely to refer you to others.”

Booking Smart: It’s About the Right Audience

“Don’t just chase big-name shows. Make sure their audience matches your ideal client—or you're leaving money on the table.”

If you sell plows, getting on a show with an audience of a million urban socialites who don't even have yards much less a farm probably isn't going to get you as much benefit as getting on a show with an audience of 500 farmers.

Lyndsay recommends AI-powered podcast matching platforms for faster, smarter bookings.

“Hosts love when guests promote. You’ll get referred more often, invited back, and the episode gets more mileage. It’s a win-win.”
